Its green culms become golden-yellow in sun. the stems grow erect and rigid.
The internodes in the lower part of the culms are very short and the nodes prominent.
In sunlight, its foliage is bright green but it can be damaged by cold drying
winter winds.
It is non-invasive (clump-forming) and is suitable for small gardens.
