It is one of the nicest large-sized hardy bamboos.
The culm-sheaths are speckled with brown and look like a panther skin.
Its smooth and yellow culms are irregularly striped with green. A culm sometimes
mutates and is partially or totally green or yellow like the "Huanwhengzhu".
It is moderately invasive (10 m2 in 10 years).
